Post Quality of a prototype

Hi everybody, I want to have your point of view.

A prototype should be a wireframe or a graphical one?
I see many sites who offers and sells components with high definition, color, graphics… similar as the original part of existing site like a youtube player, facebook connect…
In the beginning of the project, we don’t know already wich player we will use, or what type of ajax component the developer team know.
Do you agree with me that a prototype don’t have to be a functionnal copy of the graphical template made by designer?
